What you need to bring to camp:
Your bible, a note pad, pen/pencil, stamped envelopes, twin size bedding or sleeping bag, pillow, towels, washcloths, one piece swimsuits (girls), boxer short trunks (boys), beach towel, soap, toothpaste/brush, other toiletries, flashlight, sunscreen, insect repellent, casual camp cloths, rain gear, spending money for canteen, and a plastic garbage bag for dirty cloths. Please put your child's name on the plastic garbage bag. Sometimes during the excitement of going home, campers forget to take all their belongings with them. This will help us identify who the items belong to. Please encourage your child to keep up with their belongings so that they will not be left at camp.
What not to bring to camp:
Food or drinks, radios, IPODS, MP3 players, cell phones, hand held games, or weapons of any kind. Any cell phones, IPods, MP3 players or hand held games left with campers will be collected by the Counselors and turned in to the office until camp is over.
Phone calls/Visits:
From experience, we have learned that it is best for a camper not to call home, especially if homesickness is involved. If for some reason the camper must contact you, the camp director will call for him/her. Also, we find that it is best for parents not to call or visit unless there is an emergency. You are welcome to call our office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm to check on them, but they will not be able to receive phone calls or visits except in an emergency. There are always some children who experience a little homesickness because they are away from home. This does not usually last long, and our counselors and staff will do all possible to make the camper as comfortable as possible. Friendships that begin at camp can last a lifetime, so encourage your child to make new friends and experience all that camp has to offer while he/she is here. Campers always enjoy receiving mail, so we encourage you to write to them while they are at camp. It sometimes takes 2 to 3 days for a letter to arrive, so it is best not to mail letters after Wednesday. Mail can also be left at the office to be disbursed. Make sure to mark the date you want your mail delivered if leaving it at the office. Be sure to put your campers name on the envelope so we will know who it belongs to. Mail is picked up at the post office at 8:00 am each morning and delivered to the camper just before lunch each day. Please do not send food or gum as it is not allowed in the cabins.
Bunkmates:
Your child may request only one roommate. That request should be made when your registration is filled out. We will do our best to grant that wish, but we cannot guarantee it. Please make sure you are comfortable with that rule before coming to camp. We will always make sure your child is with someone from his or her group or church unless other request are made. Rooming assignments will be made prior to the camp date and cannot be changed on the day of camp.
Food:
Our Food Coordinater always plans a camper-friendly menu for our summer campers such as pizza, hamburgers, chicken strips, steak fingers, corn dogs, smiley fries, spaghetti, salad bar, etc. If your child has a special dietary need, please note that on the registration. We also have two canteens per day for snack items. Only one soft drink and one candy item will be allowed per canteen and all items are $ .75 each. Water can be purchased in addition to a soft drink at any canteen.
Financial aid:
Some scholarship funds are available for those who need it. You would need to contact our Director at 601-892-2341 to discuss those needs.
Cancellations:
If your child is registered for a camp and cannot attend that week, you can choose to move them to another week of camp or get a refund. If you choose to get a refund, the request must be made 7 days prior to the camp date to receive a full refund of your payment. If less than 7 days notice is given, only half of the fees paid will be refunded. Cancellations on registration day and no shows will receive no refund.
Dress code:
Casual camp cloths - (Girls) no short shorts, tank tops or two piece swimsuits, (Boys) no low riding pants. Flip flops are only allowed in the pool area. Tennis shoes are best for outside activities.
Camper Photos
Photos of the weeks activities will be posted to a site daily for you to view. That site is http://photos.wesleypines.com. You will be required to enter a "secret" password in order to view those photos. This "secret" password will be enclosed in your registration confirmation letter. Please be sure to keep it so that you will be able to view pictures during your campers week of camp. Only those with this "secret" password will be able to view those photos.
A typical day at camp:
Our days typically begin with breakfast at 7:30 and from there you will have a full day of activities such as ropes course, arts & crafts, swimming, canoeing, pedal boats, water slide, prayer trail walks, recreational activities on the ball field, SMORES, canteen, snow cones, popcorn, cooking in the woods, buddy burners, kick the can ice cream, and closing each day with worship in the Tabernacle.
Our summer staff:
All our counselors and lifeguards must be interviewed by our Executive Director before they are employed for the summer. Counselors must be in their first year of college or older to apply. Although lifeguards are not required to be college age, they are required to have lifeguard and CPR certifications. Counselors and lifeguards are trained and certified on our ropes course. At least one counselor (most of the time 2) and one CIT will be assigned to a cabin with 10 campers. Our Executive Director and/or our Assistant Director will always be on site and a full time nurse will live on site during the camping season to address any medical needs. All medications are kept in the clinic and must be dispensed by the nurse.
Camp store:
Our camp store will have items such as t-shirts, caps, duffle bags, blankets, bible covers, jewerly, etc. The store will be open on registration day and at various times during the week. It will also be open on the last day of camp for campers to visit before leaving. Most items run $10.00 to $15.00, so you may want to send additional spending money for items your camper may want to purchase.
See you at camp!!
